###
Is it a race? Yes, we'll have several USAC categories from Juniors to Professional.
Is it a gran fondo? Yes, it's that too and we'll have 3 distance options for the gran fondo riders & racers.
Is it USA Cycling sanctioned? Yes, we are returning to USA Cycling.
Do I need a USA Cycling license for the gran fondo? Nope. Just come ride.
Does it still include both paved & gravel roads? Yes, each course includes both paved & gravel roads as well as covered bridges, scenic Washington County, NY countryside, and some familar roads from years past.
What are the gravel roads like? There's no chunky gravel, no single track, no couches, no river crossings, no dismounting for mud or trees or anything like that. In Washington County we just call them "dirt roads" and we've been riding them on bikes before there was anything called "gravel." You'll love them.
Then what kind of bike should I ride? In order of faster to slower: road bike, gravel bike, mountain bike. Reverse these if you're looking to prioritize comfort. Racers will be using road bikes with 28-32mm tires, and everyone else will ride whatever they have or makes them happy.
Is there still an expo & after party? You bet. It'll be better than ever.
Is it family friendly? Yes, it is. We'll have kids races, community-supported events at Main Street businesses, and family-friendly activities at the race expo next to the start & finish lines.
Is it still fully supported? Yes, each race and ride is fully supported with aid stations / feed zones, mechanical support, hundreds of course marshals, sag wagons, moto support, course signage, and dozens of local, county, and state law enforcement officers at all critical intersections on the course.
What's included with my registration? Everyone gets the famously popular Battenkill tee, a custom Battenkill pint glass, SAG & mechanical support, stocked aid stations, and police & volunteer support at critical intersections on the course. While USAC category racers get official support & limited field sizes, gran fondo riders get (1) free beer & a meal voucher at the Battenkill Expo & After Party. All USAC category and gran fondo overall & age group winners receive Champions jerseys by Verge Sport! Battenkill Valley scenery & warm hospitality are free.
Is it a corporation-run event? No way. Grassroots cycling forever.
Then who is Anthem Sports? We are the founders & original organizers of the Tour of the Battenkill - once the largest Pro/Am road race in USA history under our direction with more than 3,000 riders from 48 States & 20 countries once upon a time... We were fortunate enough to have the support of many of you, our sponsors, and most importantly the communities of Washington County, New York from 2005 through 2017. If you missed out or missed those years, we welcome you & welcome you back.
Why is it under new (& old…) management? Because we care about the great traditions of cycling, bicycle racing, the communities of the Battenkill Valley and in the history of this great event.
Should I register? Yes, you should. You can register here.
